All of the Sadlers have a good day at “The Rock”
Saturday’s AC Delco 200 Busch Grand National race was won by Elliott Sadler. Kevin Lepage finished second, and Elliott’s older brother Hermie Sadler came home third. The Sadler Brothers race team also had a successful first Busch outing with Bobby Hamilton jr. leading the race in his first ever Busch start.
Hermie and Elliott Sadler are not related to Earl and Check Sadler. The name game got confusing during the race, forcing Buddy Baker to have to explain the situation to the TV audience.
Through pit strategy the Sadler Brothers crew (that’s us) was able to get Bobby Hamilton Jr.’s Pontiac to the front of the field. He held the lead for several laps before the cars on four fresh tires were finally able to get by him. He ran the next several laps with the best drivers in the Busch Grand National Series.
It was easy to forget that this was the twenty-one year old’s first ever BGN start. He looked comfortable and competitive running door to door with the likes of Mark Martin and the other Sadler Brothers.
Over the course of the race, Little Bobby fell off the lead lap, finishing the race 37th, three laps down.
The crew is looking forward to carrying the momentum forward into this weekend’s festivities in Atlanta. Bobby will run the final ARCA event of the year on Friday and the Busch race on Saturday. Last week, Bobby tested both cars in Atlanta under the direction of his father. His times were competitive, and we are looking forward to a great performance.
